Every Big Waterset Event This Fall Is Also a Collection

October 15, 2026

At each Concerts for a Cause night this fall, a donation truck sits on site at The Lakeside, and the food trucks open at 5 p.m. The concerts are free, and so is the lawn. What Waterset asks for in return is a can of soup or a box of pasta. Twelve days after the last concert, the Thanksgiving 5K starts a few steps from the same lawn, and every entry fee goes to Apollo Beach public schools.

From mid-October through Thanksgiving, nearly every major public event in Waterset doubles as a collection. Most of what it collects leaves the community and heads south to a Tuesday-morning food pantry in Ruskin. If you know where things end up, it is easier to decide what to bring and which nights to circle.

The lawn at 7250 Parkshore Drive

Most of the fall happens at The Lakeside, 7250 Parkshore Drive in Apollo Beach. Waterset describes it as a community park overlooking a 32-acre lake. It has a Grand Lawn, a zero-depth splash pad, picnic space with grills, two dog parks, a playground, fitness stations and trails, including a one-mile loop around the lake. Waterset's 2015 announcement of the park also listed a covered pavilion and an event lawn facing the water.

That layout is why one park carries so much of the calendar. A concert crowd needs open grass and a place to park food trucks. A race needs a start line next to a wide boulevard. Families need a splash pad and a playground close by while the adults wait for the music. The Lakeside has all of that in one spot.

The lawn is still the plan, though, not a guarantee. In 2024, unforeseen circumstances tied to back-to-back hurricanes moved the whole Concerts for a Cause series from The Lakeside to The Waterset Club. In its November 2024 recap, Waterset said the relocated series still drew its highest attendance to date. The event's identity held up through a change of venue. In a fall when weather is a factor, check the community's posts on the day of an event.

What is still ahead, as of October 12

The first concert, Greg Roy and The Pressure Band on October 10, has already happened. Here is what is left on the fall calendar, pulled from Waterset's October 2026 calendar, its fall events post and the Turkey Trot page.

Thu., Nov. 26 11th Waterset Turkey Trot 5K at 8 a.m., kids' runs about 9 a.m. Start near The Lakeside Entry fees to Apollo Beach public schools

Developer Brookfield hosts the concert series, and all four nights are open to the public as well as residents. The October calendar also has smaller recurring items that don't collect anything. Knitters meet at The Landing from 1 to 3 p.m., outdoor yoga is at 8:30 a.m., there is a Cars & Coffee morning at The Landing, and the HOA has a Food Truck Fest at The Lakeside. Those are the community's everyday rhythm. The big dates are the ones built around giving.

Where the cans go

Waterset's own announcement for the series says the food collected at the concerts supports Feeding Tampa Bay and is meant "to help stock our local Community Cupboard in Ruskin as we approach the holiday season." The Cupboard is one of the places Feeding Tampa Bay's food reaches families. According to Calvary's Community Cupboard, Publix is a main contributor, with volunteers picking up day-old bread from the Apollo Beach and Ruskin Publix stores on Monday and Tuesday mornings, and most of the pantry's other food comes from Feeding Tampa Bay.

The Cupboard is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) at 1480 E. College Ave. in Ruskin, open Tuesdays from 7:30 to 10 a.m. It serves residents of Ruskin, Apollo Beach, Riverview, Sun City and Wimauma. Calvary Lutheran Church started it in 1979, when it was a single barrel in the church's old fellowship hall. Over the years it grew into a cabinet, then a trailer, then the space it uses today. The pantry's page says that when it began, the stretch of US 41 through Apollo Beach had little more than the church and a small grocery store.

The 2024 recap gives a useful baseline. That fall's four concerts collected nearly 2,000 pounds of food and $500, which provided 292 meals. In the same recap, Waterset said the Cupboard was feeding more than 500 families a week. The concerts are a seasonal boost, timed to the holidays, for a pantry that opens every Tuesday of the year. They arrive in the weeks when demand runs highest.

Waterset hasn't published a 2026 donation goal or a running total. With three concerts left, the 2024 figure is the most recent number available.

Thanksgiving morning on Waterset Boulevard

The Turkey Trot is the second collection, and this year marks its 11th anniversary. Here is how it works:

  1. Register on RunSignup. As of October 12, the 5K is listed at $35 plus a $3.86 service fee, and the Kids' Fun Runs at $20 plus a $2.85 fee. Waterset's race page still shows a $30 early-bird 5K price, so the RunSignup listing is the one to go by for current pricing.
  2. Pick up your packet early. Early pickup is Wednesday, November 25, from 3 to 7 p.m. at The Landing Club, 7012 Sail View Lane.
  3. Or check in race morning. Check-in and day-of registration open at 7 a.m. at 7250 Parkshore Drive.
  4. Run the 5K at 8 a.m. The course is flat and chip-timed, running north and south on Waterset Boulevard from near The Lakeside.
  5. Bring the kids for about 9 a.m. Waterset's race page puts the Kids' Fun Runs at about 9 a.m. The fun runs are for ages 12 and under. Options are a half-mile, a one-mile, and a short Itty-Bitty route for children under five. The kids' runs are not chip-timed.

The race pages reviewed for this post don't include parking instructions. Plan to check closer to the race whether you are driving in or walking over from home.

Waterset says the race proceeds go to local public schools in Apollo Beach. This collection is different from the concerts. The concert food leaves for Ruskin, but race fees go to schools near the community. A household that does both is giving in two directions over about seven weeks, from October 10 to November 26.

Planning a Saturday around the 5 p.m. trucks

The concert format leaves an hour between dinner and music. Waterset's guidance is simple. Get there when the trucks open at 5, bring a blanket or lawn chair, claim a spot on the lawn, and let the music start at 6. Waterset hasn't named the food trucks ahead of time. The rest of the park can fill that hour. The one-mile lake loop takes care of a pre-dinner walk. The splash pad and playground are close to the Grand Lawn. The two dog parks give dog owners somewhere to go before the crowd builds.

For donations, the series asks for nonperishable food and also accepts money, and the donation truck is on site each night. Shelf-stable items fit what a pantry can store and hand out on a Tuesday morning. One bag on each of the three remaining Saturdays adds up over a series that is meant to be cumulative.

If you can't make a concert, the Cupboard's Tuesday morning schedule and its College Avenue address are both posted on the pantry's page.
