Sullivan Street in Winthrop just finished hosting eight restaurants for the neighborhood's first-ever Restaurant Week, a run of special menus and giveaways that wrapped on September 27. The walkable town center won't host another headline event until the Pop Up Market returns on October 17, so the storefronts return to their regular rhythm for about three weeks.
Ten minutes away on Stelling Drive, the schedule works differently. Wing Snob, Mission BBQ, and Chick-fil-A don't run on a season; they're open according to their posted hours. Riverview's food scene has split into two distinct operating systems this year, and knowing which one you're driving toward changes what kind of night you're going to have.
Winthrop is the walkable half. The neotraditional community sits near the Riverview-Brandon border, southeast of Bloomingdale Avenue and Providence Road, built around a town centre and Sullivan Street where restaurants, a plant shop, and a sports bar sit close enough to reach on foot. Longshots Sports Bar and Lounge officially opened its doors here on August 28, joining the roster that Winthrop leaned on for its first Restaurant Week: eight neighborhood spots running special menus.
Stelling Drive is the other half, and it works by cluster, not by stroll. Wing Snob picked 10444 Stelling Drive for its Florida debut, throwing a grand-opening party on March 1, 2025, with live music and a shot at free wings for a year. Mission BBQ sits four doors down at 10440 Stelling, open seven days a week with hours that don't shift for holidays or seasons. The same corridor drew an Einstein Bros Bagels into its plans alongside Wing Snob and Mission BBQ, and it's pulling in more chains by the month: Chick-fil-A opened a new location on Balm Road on August 20, its second in the immediate area after the Gibsonton & 301 restaurant that's been running since November 2024. Barrio Burrito Bar had targeted a mid-August opening this year at 9830 Upper Alafia Court. Mellow Mushroom announced plans a year ago for a spot at 10240 Big Bend Road, backed by the same franchisees who run the chain's Brandon, Clearwater, and Wesley Chapel locations.
Neither node touches the Alafia River, where the Civic Center's boat launch and playgrounds handle the parts of Riverview life that don't involve a menu at all. But between the two food corridors, the split is clean: one runs on foot traffic and a printed schedule, the other runs on parking lots and drive-thru lanes.
Here's what that split actually means if you live near Winthrop and treat the town center as your default plan. The market that anchors the neighborhood's Saturday mornings, the one that pulled in 150-plus vendors last season, doesn't operate in the summer. It runs the third Saturday of the month from October through May, eight dates total, and the 2026-2027 season doesn't start until October 17.
Restaurant Week marked a September event between market seasons, giving Winthrop's restaurants a reason to draw people in before the market picks back up. After September 27, the next scheduled Winthrop event is the market's season opener about three weeks later. For the next few Saturdays, visitors can head to one of the eight restaurants that just ran specials.
Stelling Drive follows a different schedule. Wing Snob's hours run 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. most nights. Mission BBQ closes at 9. Their hours are not tied to the market season.
Winthrop Town Centre | Stelling Drive corridor | |
|---|---|---|
Access | Walkable, off Highway 301, about 15 minutes from downtown Tampa | Drive-to, clustered near Big Bend Road |
What just opened | Longshots Sports Bar and Lounge (Aug. 28, 2026) | Chick-fil-A Balm Road (Aug. 20, 2026) |
Established anchors | Eight restaurants featured in the first Restaurant Week | Wing Snob (since March 2025), Mission BBQ |
Runs on | A seasonal calendar, third Saturday, October through May | Daily posted hours, no season |
Next scheduled draw | Pop Up Market, Saturday, Oct. 17, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Whatever night you show up |
A few additions worth knowing about, whichever side of Riverview you're closer to:
If Saturday morning means browsing vendor tables under the old oak tree, dragging the dog along, and grabbing lunch at one of Winthrop's restaurants afterward, mark October 17 down now. That's the first market date of the new season, and there isn't another Winthrop event of that size scheduled before it.
If it's a Tuesday and you want dinner without checking anyone's calendar, Stelling Drive and the Big Bend corridor are built for exactly that. Wing Snob doesn't care what week it is. Mission BBQ doesn't either. That's the whole design difference between the two sides of Riverview's food scene: one follows a seasonal event calendar, while the other follows daily business hours.
If you're settling into Riverview and still working out which corner of the neighborhood fits how you actually live, that's the kind of local detail Command Properties Florida tracks for clients well past closing day.
